Malnutrition is one of the greatest threats to child survival worldwide and the underlying cause of nearly half of all child deaths.
working where hunger is most severe and entrenched.
From isolated rural communities to overcrowded urban slums to refugee camps, we prevent and treat undernutrition in more than 50 countries around the world. We work in humanitarian emergencies and in more stable contexts to improve the health and survival of the most vulnerable children, as well as pregnant women and nursing mothers.
Contraception is basic primary health care for everyone
Family planning is a crucial aspect of reproductive health that enables individuals and couples to make informed decisions about the timing and spacing of pregnancies. It is a fundamental human right that promotes gender equality, women’s empowerment, and poverty reduction. Family planning methods include contraception and treatment of involuntary infertility. By eliminating unwanted pregnancies and arriving at the optimum number of children for any family, family planning helps ensure adequate maternal and child health. It also reduces pregnancy-related health risks, such as unsafe abortion practices, maternal depression, and mistimed pregnancies. Moreover, family planning can help lower the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS, and address infertility.
